Eco Adventure Tours
Our eco adventure tours are for folks who want to get muddy, paddle hard, hike far, and still pause to admire a wildflower or some weird fungus growing out of a log. These trips aren’t just about adrenaline—they’re about connection. We’ll take you into the heart of West Virginia’s caves, rivers, and ridgelines, weaving in geology, ecology, folklore, and the occasional questionable, yet delicious, trail snack. Whether you're floating through a canyon, crawling through ancient limestone, or spotting salamanders in a mossy hollow, you'll leave with dirty boots, a full heart, and probably a few stories that start with “You’re not gonna believe this, but…”

Options
Our eco tours are based in the stunning Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, and the options are as wide open as the mountain skies. This is the area around Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods, Spruce Knob, and the Smokehole Canyon. Want to spend the day crawling through one of hundreds of wild caves here? What about paddling some of the best Class III runs in the state, or heading to slower water to hook up with a giant smallmouth? Ever see the Tuscarora Fins all along the North Fork and want to stand at the summit of one? How about getting in with the next big thing and biking some trails we can explore at the Sweetwater Farm Trail Center? Did I mention there is a volcano there? Well, it's actually an ingenious intrusion, but we could talk more about it when we're having lunch on it.
Maybe your idea of the perfect day is hunting fossils in an ancient seabed? If any of that sounds interesting, we’ve got you.
Prefer a slower pace with birdwatching, botany, and secret swimming holes? Also on the menu. River snorking cannot be recommended enough!
These trips can be half-day or full-day adventures, fully customized to your interests, energy level, and curiosity. Solo explorers, families, and curious skeptics welcome—we’ll build the day around what excites you most about the wild.

Natural History
Every eco tour is packed with stories from the land itself. As we explore caves, rivers, and the forest, you'll learn about the natural history of the Potomac Highlands—from ancient orogenies, to the karst geology that shapes our underground world, to the incredible biodiversity that calls these mountains home. We’ll talk rocks, bats, salamanders, and shifting tectonic plates—plus a bit of Appalachian folklore for good measure. Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just wondering how the trees can grow on the sides of cliffs like that, you’ll walk away seeing the landscape in a whole new way.
